Lizzie McGuire DVD cover

This DVD cover follows the route of the eye. We start at the top which goes through the tittle of the programme. Then we are drawn down through the main image. Then along the bottom are the special features. ‘Lizzie McGuire’ is at the top of the DVD because it makes the DVD recognisable just by the name. if there was a rack of DVDs in a shop and all you could see was the top, you could easily identify this DVD to the programme. With the image being through the larger part of the route of eye, this gives it maximum attention following this rule. Then the special effects are at the bottom because they are less important to the children viewers, so are aimed more at the parents buying the DVD for their children. The rule of thirds can also be applied to this DVD cover. There are obvious stages in the DVD cover, top, middle and bottom, this is where the rule of thirds comes into play. In the top third the tittle of the programme is seen. This draws our attention to it to identify the programmes name. The middle third contains the image. With image being in the middle it grabs our full attention. Also the hotspots are placed around the image, again making us focus on the image more than anything else. In the bottom third. Like the route of eye, is the special effects. This consists of the ‘BBC’ logo and the ‘Disney Channel’ logo. This shows us that this is where the programmes are shown, so similar programmes are shown there that younger children will enjoy. There are two images on this DVD. But one is considerably bigger than the other so is the main image. This is of the main character Lizzie McGuire. We know she is the main character because she is the only person in the DVD cover. There is also a cartoon version of Lizzie. Throughout the programme the cartoon character has its own little cut scenes that are the younger kids will find funny. This is because it makes the programme more relaxing and cartoons are nice and easy for younger people to understand. The main image of Lizzie is a fun picture. She is all smiley and in a classic ‘girly pose’. This makes the DVD more appealing to girls because of the posture of Lizzie. Of what you can see, she is wearing mainly blue clothing which will be fun for the audience as it is a bright loud colour, again making the picture stand out more. The colour scheme is bright colours consisting of yellow, green and pink, all of which contrast against each other. This makes it stand out more to the target audience as the brightness of the colours will stand out, making it easier for them to see the DVD. The heading ‘Lizzie McGuire’ is written in black in a simple font on a pink cloud. The writing is in black to make it stand out on the pink background and makes it easy to read. Similarly so does the simple font. Because the tittle is placed on a pink background, it shows that this DVD is mainly aimed at the female audience. Yet it can also be aimed at males because there isn’t a pink theme through the DVD, there are other strong colours to make it a little bit more appealing to them.

Tracy Beaker DVD Cover

This DVD follows the Route of Eye Principle.  At the start of the  RoE, you get the programme’s name, The Story of Tracy Beaker. This makes it easier for the consumer to easily spot the DVD that they want. It then goes straight across the picture giving us focus on the main character. It then runs across the bottom of the DVD cover, drawing our attention to the age certificate, which would be relevant for the adults consuming this. The rule of thirds has also been used on this cover to give more attention to important aspects. In the top thirds the title of the programme is located.  In the middle thirds you can see the picture. With this being in the center it draws most attention. Also the hotspots surround the image, so draws the most attention. This is so the consumer can quickly recognize the DVD with out really looking at the tittle. The bottom thirds, like the route of eye, draws some attention to the age certificate and the sub headings. There is only one image on this DVD cover. The image is a close up of Tracy Beaker. This could be so that consumers can instantly recognize the main character. The picture is also put in a star shape as underneath the image it says, “Starring Me”. This adds a bit of humour to the DVD.
The colour scheme is really bright and contrasting colours have been used. This is also to make the DVD stand out to the target audience. There is a lot of stars used. This not only relates to “Starring Me” but also makes it fun for the younger target audience.
The DVD is effective because it reaches to the target audience. It does this by using bright colours, the use of graphic images and the use of a big main picture.

Our main task is to produce a tittle sequence to a children's TV drama.
For our ancillary tasks we are :
